The Australian Food and Grocery Council released its 6th Annual State of the Industry 2014 report indicating a mixed performance of Australian food industries over the past 12 months:

Editorial comment: The Australian food industry faces extremely tight competitive margins with high costs, relatively high currency rates, and stiff import competition, which therefore necessitates less government regulation and bureaucractic inefficiencies, more transport infrastructural investment to improve logistical efficiencies, and greater flexibility in workplace relationships and agreements in order to increase international competitiveness and drive export growth. Unless Australian food manufacturing profitability can be improved, new opportunities in the Asian-Pacific region will be foregone!
